Many of these basics are derived from military sources, although there are strong differences. Primarily, the military teaches you things that will keep you alive in combat. In paintball, we take risks that no sane soldier should, because the penalty is usually only a little time on the sidelines.

Notice that these are all "mental" skills. Physical skills like shooting or moving from cover to cover are best learned in person. You really won't be learn as much from reading about good shooting technique as you will from actually taking your paintball gun out and using it.
